(Take Me Away, Deceiving Me)

Composed by जयशंकर प्रसाद (Jaishankar Prasad)

English Translation

Take me away, deceiving me, My boatman, slowly, slowly. To that desolate place where ocean waves, Deep in the ears of the sky, Narrate a steadfast tale of love- Forsaking this tumultuous earth. Where the crimson shadow of twilight, Embracing with illusion, Sleeps gently in its soft, Mantle of oblivion, slowly. O weary traveler! Where someone Plays the lute of dreams.

AI Echo (Hindi)

AI Echo (English)

Where stars too keep silent, Singing the song of silent night. On unknown paths, even then, My heart yearns to fly, In search of an endless peace, Each new dawn calls me forth. Alone I am, my shadow my companion, On a journey, where there's no chasm. A dream of a new world, Where every moment is my own.

Literary & Historical Context

"ले चल मुझे भुलावा देकर" is a celebrated poem by Jaishankar Prasad, a pioneer of the Chhayavaad (Romanticism) era in Hindi literature. This excerpt beautifully encapsulates the core themes of Chhayavaad: a yearning for escape from the mundane, a deep connection with nature, and a quest for spiritual solace. The poet addresses an unknown "boatman," urging him to take him to a serene, secluded realm where nature's elements (ocean, sky, twilight) communicate a profound, unchanging love, far from the chaotic human world. The imagery of the crimson twilight sleeping in "oblivion's mantle" and the "lute of dreams" evokes a dreamlike, ethereal quality, characteristic of Prasad's poetry. It reflects a desire for a utopian existence, a retreat into the inner self and the tranquil embrace of the cosmos, away from life's weary journey.
